Opposition leaders slam AIIMS faculty selection

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has questioned the selection process of the faculty at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) claiming that around 40 per cent of positions reserved for SCs, STs and OBCs were vacant despite competent candidates applying for these jobs.

DELHI: Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has questioned the selection process of the faculty at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) claiming that around 40 per cent of positions reserved for SCs, STs and OBCs were vacant despite competent candidates applying for these jobs. When Yadav brought the matter up in the Rajya Sabha, Sharad Yadav, the JD(U) leader, pitched in, saying that the recently appointed director, M.C. Mishra, was “consciously” steering clear of recruitment to these positions. “If this recruitment is not stopped, the SCs, STs and OBCs will not be appointed to the faculty for 10 years. Stop it or ensure that the norms are implemented,” he said. Now, with even union minister Ram Vilas Paswan seeking the government’s intervention in the matter, Health Minister J.P. Nadda has got down to work, examining reports submitted by various committees and seeking representations both from the institute and members of the faculty.
