Let this book quieten your anxieties and satisfy your curiosities

'Make the Best of Your Life: Letters to Bahujan Youth' by Prabhu Guptara is due for release on 23 August. The Hindi translation titled ‘Kaise Banaiye Jiwan Ko Khoobsurat: Bahujan Yuvaoke Naam Patra’ will also be available soon. Whether you are young or old, a child or a parent, you can either read this book on your own or discuss it over a cup of tea with family and friends

In our country, not much is written specifically for young people. They want to know – and need to know! – so much in relation to “Life”, “Education” and “Work” (Career).

Those are the three themes of this book. The book is especially valuable because it consists of letters in reply to questions from young people asking for advice and tips.

Make the Best of Your Life: Letters to Bahujan Youth, Prabhu Guptara, Forward Press, 148 pages, Rs 150 (paperback), Rs 350 (hardback)

Due to the author’s long experience in different organizations, he is an authoritative mentor. Also, since he has been a speaker on management for many decades, he presents his thoughts in a way that is informal and friendly, and they make for an interesting read.

What I like most about the book is that it provides analyses of problems. For example, in relation to New Year resolutions, he says, “What is important is not simply the resolution itself; it is the process by which one arrives at resolution” – and then he goes on to give the steps by which one can arrive at useful and practicable resolutions.

Prabhu Guptara

In the section ‘Life’, he deals with questions on social life and communication, focusing on learning to make life more peaceful, harmonious and purposeful.

The other two sections, ‘Education’ and ‘Work’, take on topics that often provoke debates between parents and children. Whenever children have to choose a stream of study or a specialization, often the whole family becomes involved in surveying, analyzing, and then trying to make a good choice. Besides, the author’s answers to questions take into account the ever-changing nature of career avenues, possibilities and opportunities.

Overall, I found that he has balanced views on many topics, and makes the reader positive.

Whether you are young or old, a child or a parent, you can either read this book on your own or discuss it over a cup of tea with family and friends.

So if you want to grow in life positively and successfully and want to quieten your anxieties while satisfying your curiosities, then ‘Make The Best Of Your Life’ is your kind of book.
