Why are a handful of people discomfited by the mention of Tipu Sultan?

Recently, portraits of India’s freedom fighters were hung on the walls of the Delhi Assembly building. Among them was a painting of Tipu Sultan, the popular Mysore ruler who had put up a fight against the British before the 1857 mutiny. The RSS brigade has expressed its displeasure about this particular portrait. But this opposition is not new. What are its implications?
