Dalit social worker Sudha Verghese was honoured with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad award for her excellent work in the field of education by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at a function organized in connection with the Teachers Day here on November 11

PATNA: Dalit social worker Sudha Verghese was honoured with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad award for her excellent work in the field of education by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at a function organized in connection with the Teachers Day here on November 11.

Sudha Verghese hails from the Dalit community and has dedicated her life to serving the Dalits. She runs an organization called Nari Gunjan for the education of Dalit girls at Danapur in Patna. She told FORWARD Press that she decided to establish Nari Gunjan because she was hurt by the atrocities being committed on Musahars in the state. Sudha Verghese is a Padmashree awardee.
