In December 2012, V. Narayanasamy, Minister of State, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, in reply to a question by Dr. Gyan Prakash Pilania in the Rajya Sabha, had given information about the representation of OBCs, SCs and STs in Central government jobs. He said that the Group-wise representation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Central government services as on 1 January, 2011 was as under:
The Minister of state told the Raya Sabha in a written answer that reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Central Government services is provided at the rate of 27% in case of direct recruitment on an all-India basis by open competition. In case of direct recruitment on an all-India basis, other than by open competition, reservation for OBCs is provided at the rate of 25.84%.Representation of OBCs is still low for the reason that reservation for them started only in September 1993.
